History of Granite Gorge
-
looking into the future, but holding onto the past.
For those who are fascinated by natural marvels, Granite Gorge
Nature Park is an unforgettable spectacle. Located just 12 km west
of Mareeba on Chewko Road, like no other place in the world this
awesome landscape stretches out as far as the eye can see.
Volcanic activity has forced up huge, weird boulders dramatically
shaped into animals. The sheer size of the some of these boulders
is overwhelming. The rocks form a breath-taking sight stretching
out for over 2.5 kilometers and offering unforgettable Australian
views and terrific sunsets that will stay in you memory forever.
Vast
drops reveal spectacular views of the volcanic rock terrain,
softened by the verdant native trees and interspersed with creek
beds.
This vast stone jungle was caused by volcanic eruptions
millions of years ago, and today it is home to many species of
animals, such as friendly Mareeba rock wallabies found only in
this area, fruit bats, frill-necked lizards, kangaroos, etc. Contact
